Job summary

The Plant Operating Engineer position involves performing mechanical projects in a hospital setting, operating gas, oil, coal, or dual fuel boilers to maintain required pressures and temperatures for heating, power, and sterilization.

Responsibilities include logging boiler room activity, testing water chemistry, inspecting pumps and valves, and performing routine maintenance. A night shift is required to ensure continuous, safe operation and compliance with ASME/ANSI codes.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Background in electrical/mechanical or plant operations.
• One (1) year of training in the electrical/mechanical or plant operators field + one (1) year of experience, or three (3) years of documented experience.
• Six (6) months to one (1) year on-the-job training is required to attain proficiency of performance of assigned duties.

Responsibilities

• Operate gas/oil/coal/dual fuel boilers to meet ASME and ANSI codes.
• Maintain a continuous steam supply for heating, powering machinery, and sterilization.
• Inspect boiler room equipment and observe operation to ensure compliance with instructions.
• Log boiler room activity and maintenance in official journals.
• Test boiler water chemistry and adjust feeding solutions accordingly.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on pumps, valves, and related equipment.
• Ensure safety, security, and readiness of fire detection and emergency systems.
