Job summary

Appalachian Regional Healthcare operates a hospital plant that relies on gas/oil/coal or dual fuel boilers to provide steam for heating, sterilization, and power. The Plant Operating Engineer will monitor and adjust boiler systems, perform routine inspections, and maintain safety protocols across the facility.

Responsibilities include testing chemical feeds, recording data, and performing preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Background in electrical/mechanical or plant operations with formal training or equivalent experience.
• 6 months to 1 year on-the-job training required to attain proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, fires, repairs and operates gas, oil, coal or dual fuel boilers to meet ASME/ANSI codes and supply steam for heating and power.
• Tours boiler room to observe equipment and ensure operation per instructions.
• Maintain proper pressures, temperatures, water levels, and combustion for efficient operation; keep boiler room clean and orderly.
• Inspect and maintain pumps, conveyors, boilers, water heaters, valves, traps, and related equipment.
• Log data in boiler room and mechanical area journals and complete service and project forms.
