Job summary

Thompson Hardwoods, Inc., a division of The Beasley Group, seeks a dependable ATL Operator in Hazlehurst, GA to safely operate log-loading equipment and support production in the woodyard.

Responsibilities include unloading trucks, sorting logs, performing inspections, and coordinating with drivers and supervisors. Prior sawmill or logging experience is preferred; overtime and night shifts required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating heavy equipment is preferred.
• Experience operating log loaders, knuckle boom loaders, or similar equipment is highly preferred.
• Experience in a sawmill, lumber yard, logging operation, or industrial environment is a plus.
• Basic understanding of equipment maintenance and inspections.
• Ability to recognize potential safety hazards and follow established safety procedures.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work well with others.
• Dependable attendance and willingness to work as part of a team.
• Ability to work overtime, extended shifts, and weekends as needed.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain productivity while prioritizing safety.

Responsibilities

• ATL log-loading equipment is safely operated to unload log trucks and transport logs throughout the woodyard.
• Sort and stack logs according to species, size, grade, and production requirements.
• Maintain a consistent supply of logs to the sawmill to support production efficiency.

• Identify and report equipment malfunctions, mechanical concerns, and safety hazards to supervisors.
• Perform basic equipment maintenance, including greasing, fueling, and cleaning as needed.
• Maintain an organized work area and ensure log stacks are properly secured.
• Communicate effectively with truck drivers, supervisors, and other equipment operators.
• Follow all company safety policies, operating procedures, and environmental guidelines.
• Assist with additional woodyard duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Ability to climb in and out of heavy equipment safely.

• Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.


• Ability to work around loud machinery, moving equipment, dust, and uneven surfaces.


• Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all workplace safety standards.


• Must be able to work 12-hour shifts. Walking, bending, climbing ladders or stairs in repetitive tolerances.
