Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration, Providence Healthcare System, is seeking a Nursing Assistant to join the Nursing - Acute Care service in Providence, Rhode Island. This permanent, full-time position offers a night shift with potential rotation to other shifts based on center needs and includes every-other weekend and holiday coverage.

You will perform basic nursing care under supervision, monitor glucose readings, and support patient comfort and safety in inpatient or outpatient settings.

Qualifications

• US citizenship requirement; non-citizens considered per VA policy
• Proficient in spoken and written English per VA Handbook 5005
• Six months of general experience or education or training
• Education above high school or nursing related training may meet requirements
• Grandfathering provision for some current NA employees in VA
• Demonstrated KSAs include nursing care range, observation, communication, and safety

Responsibilities

• Perform basic nursing duties under close supervision in various settings
• Use glucose monitoring equipment and document readings
• Maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients and families
• Observe patient status and report deviations to the RN promptly
• Set up patient-care equipment and organize supplies
• Support orientation of patients and coordinate with the interdisciplinary team
• Work as a cooperative member of the team and protect patient privacy
