Job summary

Gulf Copper is seeking a Night Safety Coordinator to lead HSE activities at our shipyard operations. You will perform inspections, coordinate permits, lead safety meetings, and maintain incident reports and MSDS files to keep projects compliant and safe.

The role requires hands-on safety expertise, strong organization, and the ability to work in open-air shipyard environments, aboard ships and offshore settings as needed.

Qualifications

• Two year Safety technician degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• Shipyard Competent Person trained.
• First aid/CPR trained.

Responsibilities

Job description

Night Safety Coordinator

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Performs routine inspections of facility work site to identify potential hazards or areas of non-compliance with company policies and permits and applicable regulations.
2. Works with Operations personnel to resolve identified HSE issues and reports up to the HSE Manager.
3. Serves as HSE Representative to assigned projects and ensures compliance with HSE policies and regulations on the assigned project at all times.
4. Coordinates all work-related permits including painting to assigned projects.
5. Reports to Safety office to update project safety files on any changes to assigned project.
6. Conducts Shipyard Competent Person activities to ensure assigned project confined spaces are tested as required and tags and logs are updated.
7. Positions and maintains emergency equipment such as life rings, fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and rescue boxes.
8. Attends and leads safety discussion at project meetings. Documents minutes for files.
9. Composes and communicates a daily turnover to relieve shift and submits for filling.
10. Conducts routine yard inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations and any other hazards that are identified.
11. Conducts Incident/Accident investigations using appropriate Incident Report documentation.
12. Assists in maintaining MSDS file up to date.
13. Maintains first aid office housekeeping on a routine basis.
14. Conducts calibration and maintenance on all Gas monitors and maintains a record log.
15. Collects and submits all hot work permits, JSA’s and SOR forms to the Safety office for filling.
16. Assists in conducting routine inventory count to maintain adequate amounts of medical treatment supplies.
17. Serves as part of the Gulf Copper’s emergency response team.
18. Performs other duties and services to ensure successful projects are delivered and clients are satisfied.

Required Education & Experience:

1. Two year Safety technician degree or equivalent experience preferred.
2. Shipyard Competent Person trained.
3. First aid/CPR trained.

Working Conditions:

1. Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office-controlled environment.
2. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE.
3. Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved.
4. Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights while wearing fall prevention equipment.
5. Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials.
6. Aboard ships, rigs, both on and offshore as well as in confined spaces.
7. The work may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
