Job summary

Port Houston in Bayport, TX is seeking an experienced Terminal Operations Supervisor to oversee day-to-day vessel, gate, and container yard activities. This role aims to optimize production, safety, and efficiency by directing crews and equipment to meet schedules.

This night-shift position requires leadership, knowledge of ILA labor relations, and the ability to coordinate with stevedoring and shipping partners to ensure smooth terminal operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Maritime Administration, Business Administration, or related; or 5+ years of related experience in a similar role.
• 1+ years of related experience preferred.
• Knowledge of stevedoring and/or terminal operations with emphasis on ILA management.

Responsibilities

• Supervise ILA Local 1351 and ILA Local 28 staff including managing performance, discipline, and recognition.
• Supervise and coordinate 24/7 road and terminal operations.
• Set up Vessel Operations plans, gather load back pads and locate discharge pad locations.
• Direct movement of port equipment and labor to service road, vessel, and yard trucks timely.
• Coordinate terminal allocations when designated in Yard Planning Center.
• Perform rail operations duties/functions when designated.
• Establish and maintain relationships with stevedoring and shipping industry.
• Determine and finalize labor and equipment orders for evenings, next day, weekend and holiday.
• Create and maintain stevedore utilization of Port Houston cranes and equipment; prepare crane bills.
• Review and approve daily/weekly ILA labor payroll.
• Respond to accidents; create incident reports and investigate causes.
• Coordinate with Port Police and Fire departments for accidents, incidents, or hazards.
• Maintain all truck driver safety violations.
• Meet with trucking companies and drivers to discuss excess violations.
• Inform the Terminal Manager and Vessel Operations Manager of activities.
• Create productivity container yard recap reports and communicate with stakeholders.
• Update VMS for required access to terminals.
• Perform safety audits and attend safety trainings.
• Complete all assigned training.
• Act in accordance with Port Houston core values.
• Perform related duties as required.
