Job summary

Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services is recruiting Nurse Shift Supervisors to cover 3rd shift at the Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute. The NSS will supervise a 72+ census and 65–95 nursing staff, directing medical and health services for 24/7 operations on a full‑time basis.

The role requires an RN in good standing in Virginia, a valid driver’s license, and prior psychiatric nursing management experience.

Qualifications

• Licensed RN in Virginia in good standing; license valid throughout employment.
• Valid driver's license required and valid throughout employment.
• Previous nursing management and/or Shift Administrator experience.
• Extensive experience in psychiatric nursing.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and schedule nursing staff with effectiveness and efficiency.
• Oversee admissions/discharges and emergency codes on shift.
• Manage staffing and scheduling needs for the shift.
• Coordinate with medical, clinical, HR, and administrative staff.
