Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This full-time night shift role runs 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

with every-other-weekend rotation and includes a potential Shift Incentive Bonus of up to $2,000, paid semi-annually. The MLS will perform complex diagnostic testing across hematology, chemistry, blood gas, coagulation, urinalysis, transfusion medicine, and specimen processing.

Qualifications

• Must possess or be eligible for appropriate laboratory certification per CLIA ’88 requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science or medical technology with qualifying practicum or equivalent.
• Transcript or documentation proving degree and coursework in biology and chemistry.
• Equivalency verification or transcript evaluation may be required.
• Military medical laboratory training plus degree acceptable.
• Master’s degree in a related laboratory field may qualify for senior MLS roles.

Responsibilities

• Obtain specimens from patients of all ages and prioritize work.
• Verify patient identity and specimen integrity.
• Perform a wide range of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing.
• Operate laboratory instrumentation and information systems per procedures.
• Communicate abnormal or critical results to caregivers and escalate as needed.
• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field

Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology

16 semester hours biology including microbiology

16 semester hours chemistry including organic/biochemistry

Master’s degree in related field (molecular biology, biotechnology, chemistry, biology, etc.)

HHS-approved laboratory certification (ASCP/ASCPi/AMT MLS) within 1 year

HEW Medical Technologist certification may be considered
