Job summary

UNC Health Core Laboratory in Chapel Hill, NC, is hiring for Medical Laboratory Scientist I or II on a part-time, onsite basis. The team handles chemistry, toxicology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, and related testing areas with opportunities to perform Smear Review and body fluid analysis.

The MLS I position requires a relevant 4-year degree or an associate with MT/MLS or ASCP/AMT certification; MLS II requires additional certifications and experience.

Qualifications

• Requires MLS I: Bachelor’s in Clinical/Medical Lab Science or related field or Associate’s in Clinical/Medical Lab Technology.
• MLS II: depending on degree and certifications, relevant licensure required.
• No prior experience required for MLS I; MLS II requires specified certifications and experience in general.
• Licensure varies by degree: MT/MLS (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) depending on education.
• Pay offers based on experience and internal equity.

Responsibilities

• Performs waived/point of care, moderate, and high complexity CLIA testing as appropriate to role and competency.
• Investigates equipment/test/workflow problems and resolves issues.
• Performs quality control and proficiency testing to monitor accuracy and precision.
• Prepares reagents and assists with standard/control materials.
• Monitors reagent inventory and maintains laboratory supplies.
• Reviews test results for accuracy and timely reporting.
• Reports results and consults with healthcare providers as needed.
• Participates in teams and special projects, and educates new staff.
• Acts as a technical resource and works independently or under direction.
