Job summary

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks an Inpatient Vet Technician to work overnight in the IMC, ICU, and ER sections of the Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital. You will collaborate with IMC clinicians and rotating interns to ensure high-quality care and patient flow.

Shifts rotate monthly; rabies vaccination requirements are covered by Auburn, with titers monitored per CDC guidance. This role involves after-hours care and potential billing duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification.
• Substitutions Allowed for Experience: Degrees may be accepted in lieu of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists with administering treatments and monitoring patients admitted in IMC or ICU; observes and records vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake; collects and labels specimens and performs treatments and administers medications as prescribed by the primary veterinarian.
• Performs and demonstrates veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.
• Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving techniques including CPR, mechanical ventilation and dialysis.
• Inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, and observes health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.
• Performs duties with speed and accuracy and works as essential personnel, providing care after hours, on weekends and holidays.
• Assists with emergency triage and stabilization of patients presenting through the Emergency service.
• May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.
