Job summary

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks an Inpatient Veterinary Assistant to support the Intermediate Care, Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room teams, assisting board-certified veterinarians and rotating interns to ensure high-quality patient care and smooth flow.

The position operates on a monthly rotating swing shift: Mon–Thu 4:00 pm–2:00 am and Fri–Sun 1:00 pm–2:00 am, including after-hours duties and emergency stabilization.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 2+ years in a veterinary hospital for Level II, 4+ years for Level III.
• Substitutions allowed: degrees may be accepted in lieu of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with treatments and monitor IMC/ICU patients, record vital data and specimen labels.
• Perform veterinary care techniques related to emergency and critical care medicine.
• Assist with life-saving procedures including CPR, ventilation, and dialysis.
• Inspect facilities, equipment, and environmental conditions daily.
• Provide after-hours, weekend, and holiday patient care as essential personnel.
• Assist with emergency triage and stabilization of ER patients.
• May assist billing and input charges as needed.
