Job summary

Beaufort County Council in Beaufort, SC seeks a pilot in command to operate mosquito control aircraft during day and night, applying public health insecticides. The OV-10 Bronco and MD-500D/Hughes 369D are used under public use, with a focus on safe, compliant flight operations.

The role requires pre- and post-flight checks, maintenance assistance, strict adherence to FAA and pesticide regulations, and the ability to read labels, operate internal programs, and communicate effectively.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associate’s degree or equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
• 1,500 hours of total flight time (flight qualifications must be approved by insurance carrier).
• 500 hours of helicopter time with 100 hours in a turbine-powered helicopter.
• Experience operating aircraft using night vision goggles (NVG).
• Must be able to read and understand chemical labeling instructions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Operates mosquito control aircraft during day and night while applying insecticides
• Provides pre- and post-flight checks.
• Assists with the service, maintenance, or repair of aircraft and spray equipment.
• Maintains compliance with FAA regulations/directives and State/Federal pesticide regulations and record keeping.
• Must have intermediate computer skills and ability to learn and operate internal programs.
• Must be able to read and understand chemical labeling instructions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.
• Performs related work as assigned.
