Job summary

Beaufort County Council seeks a pilot responsible for the safe operation of an aircraft as pilot in command for daytime and nighttime aerial spray missions, applying public health insecticides. Aircraft include OV-10 Bronco and MD-500D/Hughes 369D operated under public use.

The role requires an Associate’s degree or equivalent, 1,500 total flight hours, NVG experience, and strict adherence to FAA and pesticide regulations. Be ready to work independently with limited supervision.

Qualifications

  • Requires an Associate’s degree or equivalent to two years of college education.
  • Over two years and up to four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 1,500 hours of total flight time (Flight qualifications must be approved by insurance carrier).
  • 500 hours of helicopter time with 100 hours in a turbine-powered helicopter.
  • Experience operating aircraft using night vision goggles (NVG).

Responsibilities

  • Operates mosquito control aircraft during day and night while applying insecticides.
  • Provides pre- and post-flight checks.
  • Assists with the service, maintenance, or repair of aircraft and spray equipment.
  • Maintains compliance with applicable FAA regulations/directives and State/Federal pesticide regulations and record keeping.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills and have the ability to learn and operate internal programs.
  • Must be able to read and understand chemical labeling instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
