Summary

Under direct supervision, maintains assigned areas of buildings and grounds in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition. Provides custodial care for District facilities by emptying trash, sweeping and vacuuming floors, cleaning classrooms, sanitizing bathrooms, and performing other custodial duties.

Essential Functions

1. Cleans assigned school facilities to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment. Includes sweeping, dusting, scrubbing, sealing, waxing, polishing floors, cleaning woodwork, fixtures, and surfaces.
2. Removes spots, washes walls, fixtures, windows, and sanitizes appliances and furniture.
3. Maintains floors and sidewalks for safety and proper maintenance. Cleans playgrounds, sidewalks, and parkways.
4. Prepares classrooms and facilities for activities and events; performs unscheduled custodial duties as needed.
5. Maintains supplies and equipment to ensure availability; services dispensers and facilities.
6. Operates cleaning equipment such as buffers, vacuums, and scrubbers.
7. Secures campus by checking doors, windows, and activating security systems; reports vandalism, theft, damage, and maintenance needs.
8. Disposes of rubbish and debris; empties refuse containers.
9. Performs other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to employment.
• One year of custodial or maintenance-related experience is preferred but not required.

Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
• Ability to follow safety precautions and instructions.
• Skills in minor repairs and operation of cleaning machinery.
• Understanding of sanitation and sterilization methods.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements

Must regularly stand, walk, handle objects, reach, and communicate; frequently stoop, kneel, crouch; occasionally sit, climb, and smell. Must lift up to 10 pounds regularly, 50 pounds frequently, and 100 pounds occasionally. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Working Conditions

Exposed to fumes, airborne particles, weather conditions, electrical hazards, and chemicals. Moderate noise level.
