JOB STATUS: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SALARY/BENEFITS: Refer to Custodian Collective Bargaining Agreement

Job Function

The Night Custodian will clean and maintain the school facilities assigned to them. This position coordinates with the Buildings & Grounds Director, School Administrators, and Teachers, along with other school support staff, students, parents, and the community.

Term

This is a full-time 12-month position. The work hours vary depending on school sessions, generally starting at 3:00 p.m. or 6:30 a.m., with shifts of eight hours including a 30-minute meal period. Hours may change with notice to improve operational efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning and janitorial duties in common areas.
• Conduct minor repairs and maintenance.
• Assist in cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and cafeteria.
• Perform grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, and snow removal.
• Ensure heating and cooling systems are operational.
• Maintain supplies and cleanliness of janitorial rooms.
• Wash windows.
• Inspect for safety hazards and report deficiencies.
• Assist in training staff and resolving issues.
• Respond to communications via cellphone or radio during shifts.
• Set up and clean after activities, move furniture and equipment as needed.
• Perform daily custodial tasks across various school areas.
• Assist with building use, safety, and security, including locking doors and setting alarms.
• Monitor and report on building safety and cleanliness, perform minor repairs, and troubleshoot issues.
• Ensure proper chemical use and safety procedures.
• Remove snow and ice to maintain safe access.
• Participate in cleaning and renovation projects, operate cleaning equipment, and perform preventive maintenance.
• Respond to emergencies and weather or environmental events as essential personnel.
• Attend scheduled work and perform other duties as assigned.
