Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing required.
• Registered Nurse in Illinois.
• Two or more years in clinical specialty.
• Holds Magnet recognized certification or obtains within 1 year (specialty certification preferred).
• CPR – Basic Life Support

Responsibilities

• Facilitates unit operations on a shift basis per policy and regulation.
• Coordinates unit staffing on a shift basis for quality and cost efficiency.
• Directs patient care provided by staff nurses and support personnel for a shift.
• Champions new initiatives and participates in committees or task forces.
• Communicates with patients and significant others about nursing care.
• Implements actions to provide safe, quality, and efficient care.
• Ensures safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors.
• Provides direct patient care and ongoing assessments of patients and families.
• Monitors patient responses to interventions and progress toward outcomes.
• Ensures completion of quality improvement activities for the shift.
• Assesses and intervenes in critical patient situations and consults management as needed.
• Maintains a safe environment in line with regulatory requirements.
• Assesses staffing needs for subsequent shifts and arranges coverage as needed.
• Fosters interdepartmental communication and identifies improvement opportunities.
• Contributes input on budgetary issues, especially staffing and cost containment.
• Establishes relationships across departments to optimize patient care.
• Identifies staff development needs and orients staff to the Clinical Coordinator and Charge role.
• Serves as a resource for staff.
