Job summary

MercyOne Trinity Health in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Charge Nurse for the Night shift to lead the CMICU team. This full-time role covers 12-hour nights (7 PM – 7 AM) with a 36-hour weekly schedule and cross-functional leadership across the unit.

The ideal candidate holds Iowa RN licensure, prefers a BSN, and has at least 12 months of RN experience. BLS and unit credentialing are required, with focus on safety, compliance, and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Current or compact RN license issued by Iowa.
• BSN preferred.
• 12 months RN experience required; 24 months preferred.
• Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification or obtained within 3 months.
• Unit-specific credentialing and education active and in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily unit operations and staffing to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
• Supports clinical staff, resolves issues, and facilitates communication across care teams.
• Provides mentorship, staff education, and input on hiring and scheduling.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, documentation, and quality initiatives.
• Leads interdisciplinary rounds, huddles, and patient/family care coordination.
