Job summary

Independence School District in Independence, MO is seeking a Night Custodian for 12‑month positions at Little Blue Elementary. The role involves cleaning classrooms, restrooms, corridors, and common areas to provide a safe, clean learning environment.

Position requires physical stamina and the ability to handle routine maintenance tasks, with on-call weekend and night duties as needed. Reports to the Director of Facilities/Head Custodian; location is on site at 400-Little Blue Elementary.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform moderate to heavy physical tasks.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and to reach, bend, stoop, and push as part of daily duties.
• Experience using a backpack vacuum cleaner is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Daily classroom cleaning duties: empties wastebaskets, sanitizes sinks, cleans restrooms, dusts surfaces, refills dispensers, and maintains cleanliness of classrooms.
• Weekly cleaning duties: clean blackboards, blinds, furniture, and inspect areas for cobwebs; ensure cleanliness of parking areas several times weekly.
• Restroom/locker room cleaning: daily and weekly tasks including sanitizing fixtures, mirrors, and floors.
• General duties: setup for events, snow removal, securing building, reporting problems to supervisor.
• Inventory and maintenance: manage custodial supplies and equipment; keep closet organized; on-call for emergencies.
• Summer cleaning duties as assigned and on-call weekend/night/holiday coverage.
