Position Title

NICU Technician Days - Part Time, Evenings - Part Time

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The NICU Technician functions as an integral member of the Neonatal ICU team by performing a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities as delegated by the Registered Nurse. Performs tasks supporting optimal patient care, including specific patient care services, clerical duties, and support functions. Maintains an environment that meets all safety, infection control, and quality standards. Demonstrates teamwork, critical thinking, and communication skills to ensure safe, effective, and quality patient care. Works under the direction of an RN/Charge Nurse and performs within the scope of the KSBN Nurse Practice Act as unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP).

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

1. Assists nurses and healthcare providers with delegated direct patient care and offers assistance proactively.
2. Performs clinical duties such as patient transportation, point-of-care testing, ADLs, infant feedings, ensuring documentation and prompt reporting.
3. Performs basic clerical duties including message taking, copying, faxing, and patient registration.
4. Handles duties in the Milk Prep Room like storage, preparation, and packaging of breast milk and formulas, following proper procedures.
5. Communicates with families and visitors about unit guidelines and visiting hours; documents interactions appropriately.
6. Answers telephones and call lights efficiently and courteously, relaying messages as needed.
7. Assists with room turnover and preparation for new patients.
8. Supports patient safety and quality care by following hospital policies.
9. Maintains adequate supplies in the NICU, stocks care areas, and assists in obtaining supplies.
10. Ensures cleanliness and organization of the work environment.
11. Assists with unit security and monitors entry points.
12. Performs professional, clinical, and technical competencies relevant to the unit.
13. Other duties as assigned, depending on department needs.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Graduate

Required Licensure and Certification

• Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) - American Heart Association
• Certified Nurse Aide / Assistant (CNA), or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or equivalent technical background. Completion of initial technical courses in an accredited BSN program is also acceptable.
