Respiratory Care Practitioner III - NICU/PICU St. Mary's Hospital

Full Time Day Shifts

Job Summary:

The Respiratory Care Practitioner III is responsible for providing respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. Performs all respiratory care procedures including oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services, and patient and staff education. Monitors patient responses and makes recommendations for adjustments.

Essential Functions:

1. Provide clinical instruction and training to staff, students, and other healthcare team members.
2. Support clinical learning through mentorship, rounds, and practice evaluation.
3. Lead quality improvement initiatives and clinical research projects.
4. Participate in facility councils and serve as shift "Charge Therapist" to ensure proper staffing and coverage.
5. Assist physicians with procedures such as bronchoscopy, tracheotomy, and invasive monitoring.
6. Perform CPR and airway management per AHA ACLS protocols.
7. Conduct therapeutic procedures, airway maintenance, and patient assessments.
8. Administer oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, and other respiratory therapies, observing patient responses.
9. Instruct patients and families on therapy and equipment use.
10. Perform blood gas analysis and arterial punctures, ensuring safety and accuracy.
11. Maintain respiratory equipment and supplies.
12. Respond to cardio-pulmonary emergencies as needed.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree preferred; Master's Degree also preferred.

Licensing & Certifications:

• Current Respiratory Care License in the state of practice (required)
• NBRC credentialing (required)
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (preferred)
• BLS, ACLS, PALS required; NRP and other certifications preferred

Experience:

Minimum of two years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or five years CRT; experience in NICU, PICU, ICU, ED, or general care areas required.

Training:

EPIC EHR training preferred.
