Job summary

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) invites two Postdoctoral Fellows to join the ngVLA design and development effort, with appointments of two to three years. Fellows will spend up to 50% of their time on ngVLA Science Support IPT work and the remaining time on independent research.

Primary duties include supporting operations processes, designing use cases for simulations, and exploring AI tools to help observatory operations, with occasional travel to NRAO sites as needed.

Qualifications

• PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, Data Science, or related field required.
• Experience in radio astronomy, data science, data reduction and analysis, and software development preferred.
• Independent research track record and international collaboration experience valued.

Responsibilities

• Support development and prototyping of ngVLA operations processes and workflows.
• Curate ngVLA use cases for operations simulations and IPT tasks.
• Research new tools and methods to improve Operations Processes.
• Contribute to calibration strategies under development for ngVLA.
• Support scientific meetings and science communications with the international astronomical community.
• Carry out a program of independent astronomical research.
