Job summary

Vercel is seeking an Engineering Team Lead for Next.js to guide a hands-on team of engineers, remaining close to code while leading architectural initiatives. You will own major technical directions, review contributions, and help solve complex production issues.

You will collaborate across Product, Design, and Infrastructure to evolve Next.js, drive performance improvements, and mentor engineers toward high-quality, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience and hands-on coding.
• Led engineers or small technical teams in a technical role.
• Recent experience writing, reviewing, and shipping production code.
• Strong judgment across React, framework architecture, and large-scale systems.
• Ability to form a point of view, write critical code, and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship Next.js: write production code, review PRs, debug issues, contribute to the framework.
• Lead major technical initiatives from exploration to rollout and production follow-through.
• Set technical direction across rendering, caching, routing, and tooling.
• Investigate performance regressions and production failures, delivering practical improvements.
• Coach engineers through pairing, reviews, and feedback; grow the team.
• Partner with Product, Design, and other teams to integrate framework changes.
• Champion open source and engage with contributors.
