Job summary

Vercel seeks an Engineering Team Lead for the Next.js team in San Francisco. You will remain an engineer-first leader, contribute to the framework, guide architectural decisions, review code, and help the team ship with speed and reliability.

You will mentor engineers, drive major initiatives, and collaborate with Product and Design to evolve Next.js across rendering, caching, and tooling.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience and hands-on leadership.
• Led engineers or small teams with a track record of delivering production code.
• Strong judgment across React, architecture, and large-scale systems.
• Experience building products or infrastructure for developers.
• Ability to guide from problem to code and influence others.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship Next.js by writing production code and reviewing PRs.
• Lead major technical initiatives from exploration through rollout.
• Set technical direction across rendering, caching, and tooling.
• Investigate performance regressions and outages to drive improvements.
• Raise engineering quality with testing, performance, reliability and observability.
• Coach engineers through pairing, reviews and feedback.
• Provide focused people leadership and career development.
• Improve team execution with lightweight planning and clear ownership.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure and DX teams across the platform.
• Champion open source and engage with contributors and the community.
• Help grow the team via recruiting and mentoring.
