Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating studio cameras in a live TV environment.
  • Proficiency with robotic camera control systems and live shot execution.
  • Strong framing, exposure, and color balance understanding.
  • Ability to perform under pressure during breaking news.

Responsibilities

  • Operate robotic studio cameras and frame shots based on real-time direction.
  • Execute smooth on-air camera movements in a live broadcast.
  • Perform basic shading and color correction using waveform monitors.
  • Maintain consistent framing and image quality across multiple cameras.
  • Respond quickly to director cues in a fast-paced control room.
  • Troubleshoot issues during live production and adjust as needed.
  • Communicate clearly with directors and control room staff.
  • Support multiple shows within a shift and work all assigned shifts.

Job description

NewsNation is seeking a Part-Time Robotic Camera Operator to support live cable news broadcasts from our New York studios. This role operates in a fully manual, director-driven control room environment and is responsible for delivering consistent, high-quality on-air visuals. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, works well under pressure, and can respond quickly and accurately to real-time direction during live and breaking news coverage. This position requires flexible availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays. This position is based in New York, NY and requires reporting to 220 E. 42nd St. It is covered under IBEW Local 1212.

Responsibilities
  • Operate robotic studio cameras and frame shots based on real-time direction from the control room
  • Execute smooth, precise on-air camera moves in a live broadcast environment
  • Perform basic shading and color correction using waveform monitors and vector scopes
  • Maintain consistent framing, exposure, and image quality across multiple cameras
  • Respond quickly and accurately to director cues in a fast-paced, manual control room
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and adjust as needed during live production
  • Communicate clearly with directors and control room staff during all phases of production
  • Support multiple shows and/or live segments within a shift as needed
  • Work all shifts as assigned, including early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating studio cameras and/or robotic camera systems in a live television environment
  • Proficiency in robotic camera control systems and live shot execution
  • Strong understanding of framing, composition, exposure, and color balance
  • Ability to accurately evaluate video quality, including color and shading
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a live, breaking news environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Proven problem-solving ability and adaptability during live production
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field preferred
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Ross robotic camera systems
  • Experience with Sony RCPs and color correction tools (e.g., Cobalt)

This position is covered under IBEW Local 1212.

Compensation

$56.00 – $65.00 per hour
