Job summary

GRAY MEDIA's FOX 12 Portland is seeking a News Reporter to gather, write, and deliver stories for broadcast, web, and other platforms of the future. This reporter will contribute primarily to our 6.5-hour top-rated morning newscast, Good Day Oregon.

The ideal candidate has a journalism degree and at least two years in a TV newsroom, with willingness to work long hours and overtime. A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field preferred.
• Minimum of two years' experience as General Assignment Reporter in a television newsroom.
• Willingness to work long hours and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Gather, write, and deliver news stories.
• Appear on-air and coordinate live shots.
• Develop sources in the community for exclusive, meaningful reports.
• Pitch leadable and original story ideas daily.
• Demonstrate strong research and verify tips via multiple channels.
• Work independently and as part of a team with sound news judgment.
• Potential to fill-in anchor when needed.
• Must be able to drive for business needs; valid license and clean driving record.

Job Description/Summary

Portland, Oregon's #1 news station, FOX 12, has an immediate opening for a News Reporter. The top candidate will be a dynamic, high-level storyteller who gathers news for broadcast, web, and other platforms of the future. This reporter will contribute primarily to our 6.5-hour top-rated morning newscast, Good Day Oregon.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Gather, write, and deliver news stories
• Appear on-air and coordinate live shots
• Develop sources within the community to gain unique, “Only On” insight and reports on important and impactful issues.
• Pitch leadable and/or original story ideas daily.
• Strong research skills, ability to employ critical thinking skills to dig and go “beyond the press release” and/or confirm incoming news tips via email or social media.
• Work with a sense of immediacy independently and as a team while exhibiting sound news judgment and ethics.
• Potential and drive to fill-in anchor, when needed.
• This position requires the employee to be able to drive for business needs. A valid driver's license and clean driving record (MVR) are required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
