Job summary

WGAL News 8, the NBC affiliate in the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, PA market, seeks a take-charge News Producer who is creative, fast under pressure, and skilled in digital/social storytelling across platforms.

The ideal candidate will write, research, and select content for live newscasts, coordinate with anchors and reporters, and contribute to our digital presence. College degree in broadcast journalism preferred; ENPS experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Selecting, researching, and writing content for live newscasts to strengthen the 'Coverage You Can Count On' brand.
• Working with reporters and photojournalists to develop highly visual stories in assigned newscasts.
• Communicating, coordinating, and executing creative vision with anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photojournalists, editors, digital producers, and production staff.
• Contributing content to station’s digital and social platforms regularly.

Job description

WGAL News 8, the NBC affiliate in the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, PA market, is looking for a strong, take‑charge News Producer who knows how to create memorable newscasts. The right candidate will have a track record of being creative and aggressive, with the ability to make decisions and communicate a strategic plan in a clear, concise manner. We expect excellent news judgment and a can‑do attitude. Candidates must be fast, calm under pressure and eager to grow in their craft. The successful candidate will know how to use digital/social media to find great stories as well as to contribute to all platforms.

Job Responsibilities

• Selecting, researching, and writing content for live newscasts to further the "Coverage You Can Count On” brand of WGAL News 8.
• Working with reporters and photojournalists to develop highly visual stories in assigned newscasts.
• Communicating, coordinating, and executing creative vision with a team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photojournalists, editors, digital producers, and production staff.
• Contributing content to our station’s digital and social platforms on a regular basis.

Required Skills

• Excellent writing, spelling, grammar, and copy‑editing skills.
• Ability to multi‑task and coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
• Ability to synthesize and summarize complex information into comprehensive segments.
• Creative presentation style and ability to showcase all resources and elements
• Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
• Must be available to work holidays, shifts that include nights, weekends and overnights, and flexible with schedule to be available during breaking news.

Required Experience

• Previous producing experience preferred.
• Experience with ENPS preferred.

Education

• College degree in broadcast journalism, broadcast news, or related field preferred
• Military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) with associated producing experience will be strongly considered.
