Hearst's WGAL-TV in the Lancaster market seeks a skilled Photojournalist to capture impactful stories in the field and bring them vividly to viewers at home. You will shoot, edit, and execute live shots for multiple platforms, using ENG cameras, gimbals, GoPro, and mobile devices.

Responsibilities

  • Shoot and edit VOs, VO-SOTs and packages for broadcast and online.

  • Execute liveshot for daily newscasts.
  • Collaborate with Assignment Desk, Reporters, and Producers to capture and convey stories.
  • Ensure creative vision is executed with vivid video and natural sound.

Job description

Photojournalist

WGAL-TV, the Hearst Television NBC affiliate located in the Lancaster-Lebanon-Harrisburg-York, PA market has an opening for a Photojournalist who embraces the mission of impactful storytelling through visual media. We are seeking a self-motivated photographer with the ability to capture the essence of what’s happening in the field and then bring it vividly into the homes and screens of our viewers. This member of our team will spend several hours each day out in the field shooting, editing, and executing live shots for stories. The winning candidate will need to be tech savvy and up to date on the most modern aspects of our medium. You must be able to shoot with Sony XD Cam or similar ENG camera and to work with gimbals, GoPro, iPhone, and other video formats to be edited in Adobe Premiere. This team member would create visual content for our social media platforms and digital products daily. Candidates should be familiar with utilizing ENG, SNG, or wireless data to transfer completed work to the station. Excellent editing skills, exceptional time-management abilities, effective communication style, organization, and knowledge of Adobe Premiere and use of other video sharing platforms is critical. An excellent eye for video and the highest journalistic standards is a must. If you are quick acting, quicker thinking, and technically savvy, we want you working in our newsroom.

Job Responsibilities
  • Shooting and editing of VOs, VO-SOTs and packages for broadcast and multiplatform postings
  • Shooting and editing of vertical videos for effective social media consumption
  • Liveshot execution for daily newscasts.
  • Working with the Assignment Desk and Reporters to cover daily stories.
  • Working with reporters and producers to ensure the best content and facts are gathered.
  • Working with producers to ensure their creative vision is executed with vivid video and natural sound.
Experience Requirements
  • Computer and software experience is beneficial.
  • Previous newsroom experience preferred.
  • Related military experience will be highly considered.
Qualifications Requirements
  • Can easily carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
  • Efficient operation of ENG trucks and TVU live units
  • Can work in all weather conditions
  • Can operate large vehicles, must have a valid driver’s license and a near-perfect driving record
  • Exceptional ability to operate digital editing tools
  • Can organize and prioritize
  • Familiar with video sharing services such as Drop Box, One Drive, We Transfer or similar apps
  • A self-starter - someone with a go getter attitude is favorable
  • Ability to work under pressure, making quick decisions
  • Good interpersonal skills
Education
  • Related experience and/or training considered as well as combination of education experience.
  • Equivalent military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) and associated experience will be highly regarded.
