WGAL News 8, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate serving the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York market, is seeking an Anchor/Reporter to bring energy to both the anchor desk and the field. The ideal candidate will enterprise exclusive stories, deliver live shots, and engage audiences across TV and social media.

We value newsroom leadership, the ability to mentor others, and a track record of strong, credible reporting.

Qualifications

• Past anchor experience is required and 2–5 years preferred.
• Past reporting experience (2–5 years) required.
• Demonstrated ability to enterprise and uncover stories.
• Demo reel should reflect everyday work.
• Bilingual experience is a plus.
• Proven anchor with ability to connect with viewers and strong reporting skills.
• Ability to operate mobile transmission devices and use latest technology.
• Able to work in all weather conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license and capable of long-distance driving with a clean record.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Delivers scripted and ad lib material with professionalism, personality, and purpose.
• Guides reporters and producers in newscast production.
• Plans and assembles stories on day-of news or special projects.
• Gathers and edits compelling video and sound with or without a photographer.
• Produces and posts regular vertical video and social media content.
• Develops stories with exclusive content and enterprise angles.
• Builds a network of sources for tips and early information.
• Uses multiplatform storytelling to engage the audience and brand.
• Manages multiple stories and meets deadlines under pressure.
• Summarizes information into clear, easy-to-understand components.
• Maintains unwavering journalistic integrity and ethics.
• Represents the station at public events and is available for in-person attendance.

Responsibilities

• Works with or without a photographer to gather and edit compelling video and captivating sound

• Coordinates with news managers and producers to develop stories that go beyond surface details, that accentuate unique enterprise angles, and have exclusive content
• Develops a network of sources who provide tips, early access to information, and allow the reporter to break stories of significance.
• Uses social media and multiplatform storytelling to connect with audience, enhance both the station and individual brand
• Can juggle multiple stories and projects at once, demonstrates exceptional time-management skills by meeting all deadlines under extraordinary pressure.
• An ability to summarize information into easy-to-understand components
