This position is in the Public Health Laboratory's Newborn Screening program area located at 8231 Parklane Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Operate and perform maintenance on laboratory instrumentation, including Iso-electric focusing, HPLC, tandem Mass Spectrometry, PCR, and automated analyzers.
  2. Perform quality control according to protocol and review results for acceptability.
  3. Prepare reagents for testing specimens.
  4. Accurately review and report patient test results, communicating abnormal findings as per laboratory procedures.
  5. Work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  6. Participate in quality assurance activities within the laboratory.
Minimum Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in a related medical or scientific discipline, or an associate degree or equivalent training in a related field with journey-level work experience.

• Recognized institutions by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Additional Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; or an associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.

• Ability to work rotating Saturdays and holidays.

• Upload unofficial transcripts if college credit or degrees are indicated; official transcripts required prior to hiring.

• A Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) degree with ASCP certification and at least one year of clinical laboratory experience; or a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) degree with ASCP certification and at least one year of experience.

• If required, provide a certified 10-year driving record for position involving vehicle operation.
