Job summary

General Motors seeks a New Products Architect to lead definition, integration, and execution of future Internal Combustion Engine architectures within the New Products Group. This individual contributor role requires independent leadership of technical work and cross-functional alignment.

Responsibilities include architecture tradeoffs, program deliverables during BA, and collaboration with suppliers and execution teams to ensure robust transfer to production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in internal combustion engines, hybrid propulsion systems, or related powertrain hardware.
• Demonstrated experience in system architecture, subsystem integration, or cross-functional technical leadership.
• Strong understanding of balancing mechanical and electromechanical systems across performance, efficiency, cost, quality, manufacturability, and timing.

Responsibilities

• Define and engineer engine architectures that meet vehicle-level requirements for performance, efficiency, durability, cost, timing, packaging, and quality.
• Lead the technical definition of new engine concepts during BA and early product development phases.
• Own engineering and program deliverables during BA, including requirements definition and readiness for gate reviews.
• Provide technical leadership to a Balance Architecture core team with cross-functional alignment.
• Translate program objectives into structured engineering workstreams, design paths, system requirements, and integration plans.
• Serve as the central technical integrator across production release, design, analysis, validation, software, controls, calibration, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and program teams.
• Drive trade-off decisions across power, torque, transient response, fuel economy, emission compliance, lubrication, and thermal management.
• Support development of future propulsion architecture strategies and handoff into execution teams.
• Lead technical reviews and provide data-based recommendations in ambiguous or time-constrained situations.
• Collaborate with suppliers and external partners to mature concepts and resolve gaps.
