Job description

Precision Impacts LLC is seeking a highly driven Product Development Engineer to lead the front end of our customer-focused engineering efforts. This role sits at the intersection of innovation, technical design, and program execution—serving as the critical bridge between customer needs and scalable production solutions.

You will be responsible for understanding customer requirements, designing custom solutions, managing the early stages of product development programs, and facilitating smooth transitions to the production team for long-term manufacturing.

This is a high-impact role ideal for someone with technical depth, creative problem-solving abilities, and a desire to make their mark on the design and execution of new products from concept through production handoff.

Key Responsibilities:

Front-End Engineering & Solution Design:

  • Serve as the primary engineering interface with customers and commercial teams during the product concept and quoting stages.

  • Translate customer pain points and functional requirements into innovative, manufacturable product solutions.

  • Conduct feasibility studies, materials selection, design optimization, and cost/performance tradeoff evaluations.

  • Generate and iterate 3D CAD models, detailed technical drawings, and prototype concepts.

Early Program Management:

  • Own the technical and timeline execution of new product development programs from kickoff through design validation.

  • Develop and manage project plans, key milestones, and risk assessments.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sourcing, quality, and manufacturing engineering to align on design-for-manufacturing strategies.

  • Lead design reviews, DFMEA, validation testing, and customer technical communications.

  • Track technical deliverables and manage early-stage bill of materials and process workflows.

Transition to Production:

  • Ensure all product design and documentation is fully validated and production-ready before handoff.

  • Support the Production and Operations team with initial launch, pilot builds, tooling ramp-up, and troubleshooting.

  • Deliver a smooth and well-documented handover including design history files, manufacturing specs, and change control items.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or related technical discipline.

  • 3+ years of experience in a product development or applications engineering role.

  • Strong 3D CAD proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent).

  • Hands‑on experience in prototyping, product validation, and DFM.

  • Demonstrated project management skills and comfort leading cross-functional initiatives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both internal stakeholders and external customers.

Preferred:

  • Background in contract manufacturing, injection molding, or custom-engineered component production.

  • Exposure to regulated or quality-intensive industries (e.g., automotive, aerospace, medical).

  • Familiarity with ERP systems and product lifecycle tools.

What You Bring:

  • Customer-first mindset with a passion for solving real-world problems through smart engineering.

  • Strong technical intuition backed by methodical analysis and a maker mentality.

  • Ability to juggle multiple development timelines with agility and precision.

  • A collaborative spirit and desire to help bring ideas to life and scale.
