Cape Fear Valley Health System's Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC offers a Nurse Residency Program that bridges school and practice. This residency provides 1:1 preceptor support during the first 12 weeks and broad career growth opportunities across multiple nursing specialties.

Participants gain access to a wide range of acute care and specialty units while eligible relocation assistance and tuition reimbursement help ease transition to professional practice.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Nursing is required; BSN preferred.
• Current North Carolina RN license or compact state licensure.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to lead and organize care.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient care needs and identify care requirements.
• Use assessment information to organize appropriate patient care.
• Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Facilitate a safe environment and maintain competencies.
• Act as charge nurse as assigned and document care.
• Administer medications as ordered by physician.
• Recognize and respond to life-threatening situations.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary Health System and medical staff.

Work Shift Summary

Plans and implements professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital policies. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.

Major Job Functions

• Assesses the patient and identifies patient care needs
• Uses patient assessment information to organize appropriate patient care
• Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates patient care
• Facilitates a safe environment
• Maintains required competencies
• Functions as charge nurse as assigned
• Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care
• Administers medication as ordered by physician
• Recognizes life threatening situations and responds appropriately
• Establishes collaborative interdisciplinary relationships with other Health System staff and medical staff
• Monitors the quality of care based on pre-established outcome-oriented indicators
• Actively participates in cost containment and assists in accurate charging for patient services
• Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients
• Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of medical regimen
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Education and Formal Training:
  • Associates Degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Current licensure in North Carolina as a Registered Nurse or Compact state licensure

  • Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs

  • Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting
  • May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
• Required Licenses and Certifications:
  • BLS - American Heart Association
