Job description

Thank you for your interest in the New Graduate RN program at UVA Health. Our 2025 Summer cohort for new graduates is now at capacity. We are accepting applications for our Winter 2026 cohort here; interviews will begin later this Summer.

Entry-level professional nurse focused on developing knowledge and skills. Provides safe patient care at a basic level and demonstrates growth in caring for increasingly complex patients. Manages care and implements treatment plans collaboratively with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members. Requires consultation with experienced clinicians and benefits from feedback.

This job description aligns with the AAACN Scope and Standards of Practice for Professional Ambulatory Care Nursing, the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements, integrated with the UVA Nursing Professional Practice Model.

ANA Scope and Standards of Practice definition of nursing: Nursing involves the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through diagnosis and treatment of human responses, and advocacy in caring for individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations.

  • Assesses patients' physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions according to professional standards and institutional policies at the Clinician 1 level.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and coordinates nursing care activities, implementing patient-specific interventions based on individual needs at the Clinician 1 level.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of care and care coordination, progressing patients toward desired outcomes at the Clinician 1 level.
  • Develops and implements patient and caregiver teaching plans based on identified health education needs, patient condition, and age at the Clinician 1 level.
  • Ensures a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the growth of colleagues at the Clinician 1 level.
  • Demonstrates leadership in patient care delivery at the Clinician 1 level.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Position Compensation Range: $36.00 per hour.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia. BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent travel, and bending/stooping. Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail; ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20-50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
