Job description

Entry-level professional nurse focused primarily on developing knowledge and skills. Provides safe patient care at a basic level and shows growth in ability to care for increasingly complex patients. Manages care and implements treatment plans at a basic skill level in collaboration with patients, their families, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team. Requires consultation with more experienced clinicians and benefits from feedback.

This job description aligns with the AAACN Scope and Standards of Practice for Professional Ambulatory Care Nursing, the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements, integrated with the UVA Nursing Professional Practice Model.

ANA Scope and Standards of Practice define nursing as the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through diagnosis and treatment of human responses, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations.

  1. Assesses the physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of patients according to professional practice standards and institutional policies at the Clinician 1 level.
  2. Organizes, prioritizes, and coordinates nursing care activities, considering patient-specific interventions based on individual needs at the Clinician 1 level.
  3. Evaluates the effectiveness of care and care coordination, progressing patients toward desired outcomes at the Clinician 1 level.
  4. Develops and implements patient/caregiver teaching plans based on identified health education needs, patient condition, and age at the Clinician 1 level.
  5. Provides a safe environment and ensures the safe delivery of care.
  6. Assumes responsibility for professional development of self and contributes to the professional development of others at the Clinician 1 level.
  7. Demonstrates leadership in the delivery of patient care at the Clinician 1 level.
  8. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Position Compensation Range: $36.00 - $36.00 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent traveling, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail; ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20-50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
