A member of the nursing staff who is highly involved in delivering quality nursing care. He/She will work with the Charge Nurse to meet residents' needs and resolve problems. Directs and supervises nursing care and related activities on the unit, according to policies and procedures of Grimes Center and applicable regulations.

Responsibilities
  1. Standards and Compliance: Follows established nursing standards and facility policies, interprets policies to staff, residents, families, and physicians, and ensures compliance with regulations.
  2. Reporting: Obtains reports from relieving nurses, provides reports to incoming nurses, and follows up as necessary.
  3. Resident Care: Conducts rounds, directs care, reports changes, and initiates emergency measures when needed.
  4. Supervision: Supervises and evaluates direct resident care, assigns duties, and explains resident care procedures.
  5. Clinical Supervision: Provides oversight to CNAs and LPNs, assesses patient data.
  6. Basic Nursing Skills: Administers medications and treatments, manages admissions/discharges/transfers.
  7. Assessment and Documentation: Performs comprehensive assessments, develops care plans, documents care and medication administration, and ensures CNA documentation is complete.
  8. Staff Counseling and Evaluation: Counsels staff, participates in employee evaluations.
  9. Emergency and Safety: Checks emergency equipment, manages medication orders, completes incident reports, observes infection control, and adheres to safety and resident rights policies.
  10. Communication and Teamwork: Works cooperatively with all stakeholders, welcomes new staff and residents, maintains professional appearance, and performs duties as directed.
  11. Chaperone Duties: Escorts patients for appointments, assists with procedures requiring supervision.
Qualifications

Education: Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or Science preferred.

Experience: At least one year in rehabilitative, psychiatric, or geriatric nursing preferred.

Licensure: Registered Nurse licensed in Connecticut.

Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to maintain standards of care per state and federal regulations.
