Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the ICU Stepdown team. You will deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to intermediate-acuity patients transitioning from critical care to Med/Surg, with strong collaboration across disciplines.

You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care, perform precise handoffs, and participate in unit governance and quality improvement initiatives. BSN preferred; Missouri RN license required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with Missouri RN licensure.
  • BSN preferred; ADN or Diploma accepted with licensure.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS/NIHSS/PCCN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care for intermediate-acuity patients transitioning from critical care to Med/Surg.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care using evidence-based practices.
  • Perform accurate hand-offs and bedside shift reporting to maintain patient safety.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practitioners, and multidisciplinary partners to optimize outcomes.
  • Administer medications, monitor complex conditions, and support recovery.
  • Participate in huddles, governance activities, and quality improvement initiatives.

What You’ll Do

  • Participate in huddles, shared governance activities, and unit‑based quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ADN, Diploma, or BSN).
  • BSN preferred.

Licensure

  • Current Missouri RN license or compact license.

Certifications

  • Required: BLS (American Heart Association).
  • Preferred: ACLS, NIHSS, PCCN, or other Stepdown‑related certifications.
