Job summary

Henrico Doctors' Hospital offers a paid RN Residency Program designed to help new graduates transition from classroom to patient care. The program includes advanced clinical training, monthly education sessions, preceptorship, hands-on simulations, mentoring, and an evidence-based practice project.

Qualifications

• BLS certification obtained within 30 days of employment.
• ACLS certification obtained within 1 year of employment.
• Other certifications may be required during employment.
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
• Registered Nurse license or graduate nurse in the state.
• No previous experience needed; some travel may be required for training.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition during admission and during each scheduled shift, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
• Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
• Perform the administration of prescribed medications. Monitor the patient for therapeutic response. Notify the provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication.
• Respond promptly to patient requests. Strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
• Teach patients, families, and caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, status, treatment plan, medications, and possible side effects, and follow‑up measures. Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
