Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital’s 5400 Oncology Unit seeks an RN Resident to deliver direct nursing care in a patient-centered, supportive environment. You will work nights 7:00 PM–7:30 AM with a success coach, interacting with patients and families to enhance care and provide education.

The residency program offers a curriculum tailored to learning needs, opportunities to earn chemotherapy certification, and a clinical ladder path.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN)
• Current state RN licensure in Ohio
• BLS certification through AHA or Red Cross
• ONS Chemo/Bio course completed within two years of hire if chemo is administered
• Cancer-specific certification or ongoing qualifying education within accreditation cycle
• New graduate RN or less than one year of RN work experience OR transitioned to acute direct care with <1 year experience

Responsibilities

• Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs
• Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach
• Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability)
• Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk
• Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently
• Document in patients’ medical records
