Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for an ICU Stepdown role at Mercy Hospital St. Louis. You will provide high-quality care for patients transitioning from critical care to Med/Surg, coordinating with physicians and teams to ensure safety and optimal outcomes.

The position requires an accredited nursing degree (ADN/ Diploma/ BSN) with BSN preferred, and Missouri RN license or compact license. BLS is required; ACLS/ NIHSS/ PCCN are preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ADN, Diploma, or BSN).
• BSN preferred.
• Current Missouri RN license or compact license.
• Required: BLS (American Heart Association).
• Preferred: ACLS, NIHSS, PCCN, or other Stepdown-related certifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality care for intermediate-acuity patients transitioning from critical care to Med/Surg level.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care using evidence-based practices.
• Perform accurate hand-offs and bedside shift reporting to maintain patient safety.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practitioners, and multidisciplinary partners to optimize patient outcomes.
• Administer medications, monitor complex conditions (cardiac, respiratory, post-ICU), and support recovery.
• Participate in huddles, shared governance activities, and unit-based quality improvement initiatives.
