Job summary

UNC Health Care's Johnston Health in Smithfield, NC is seeking newly graduating Registered Nurses for December 2026 and May 2027 graduations to join the 4th Floor Surgical/Orthopedics/Joint Center. This 33-bed postoperative unit provides care for Total Joint and other orthopedic, urology, gynecology, general and vascular surgeries, emphasizing teamwork, safety, and patient education.

A strong onboarding pathway supports career growth.

Qualifications

RN license in NC by start of clinical care.
Graduation from an approved nursing program.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
New graduate with no prior experience required.

Responsibilities

Education: identify learning needs and use relevant patient education materials.
Evaluation of care: discuss outcomes and revise plans with the team.
Implementation: provide care for patients with complex needs; perform bedside testing as required.
Leadership: set personal goals and collaborate across units to achieve unit goals.
Patient assessment: determine priorities using comprehensive data and plan care.
Planning: coordinate with patient/family to update the care plan with multidisciplinary resources.
Research: engage with journals and bring ideas to staff for assessment.
