Job description

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.

Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.

As a Manufacturing Development Engineering (MDE) Shift Engineer in Wet Etch/CMP/Bond, you will play a critical role in enabling 24/7 process development for next-generation DRAM technologies within the Wet Etch/CMP/Bond Process Areas. This position operates on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule and serves as the primary engineering decision-maker for development activities occurring during off-hours for one of the three listed areas while also supporting the other two areas as needed. You will work closely with Process Development, Process Integration, Equipment Development, Manufacturing, and Shift Operations teams to ensure uninterrupted development execution, increase learning velocity, and support technology roadmap objectives.

Unlike traditional manufacturing shift engineering roles, this MDE Shift Engineer operates in a highly dynamic development environment where process conditions, specifications, and experimental flows frequently evolve. This role requires strong engineering judgment to disposition development wafers, make real-time process decisions, troubleshooting process and equipment issues, and appropriately balance execution needs with development objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary off-shift engineering decision-maker for development activities, using sound engineering judgment to disposition wafers, release or hold tools, define actions on development targets, respond to process deviations, handle execution risks, and maintain development momentum.
  • Partner closely with Wet Etch/CMP/Bond Process Development, Process Integration, Equipment Development, Manufacturing, and Shift Operations teams to troubleshoot process and equipment issues, resolve output constraints, support experimental processing, and remove barriers to development execution.
  • Apply SPC, E3, and other fault detection (FD) systems, and data analysis to investigate excursions, identify root causes, improve process performance, drive defect reduction and yield improvement, and support qualification and optimization activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reaction plans, recipes, and process procedures while ensuring effective cross-shift communication, change control, and timely escalation of issues that could impact safety, cycle time, yield, or operational performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by leading or participating in development projects, PMI data collection, audits, benchmarking activities, and implementation of best-known methods that improve development efficiency, execution quality, and organizational capability.
  • Leverage the Model Based Problem Solving methodology, data analytics, and AI-enabled tools to enhance decision quality and operational productivity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related engineering field. OR Bachelors of Science with proven experience in Semiconductor Manufacturing or Process Development.
  • Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as the need arises.
  • Solid understanding of either Wet Process, CMP, or Bond semiconductor manufacturing, process control methodologies, and engineering problem-solving techniques.
  • Understanding of SPC, DOE, E3 FD, and data-driven decision-making methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in area-specific process development (Wet Process, CMP, Bond) with understanding of fundamental sciences (chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, etc.) associated with that area
  • Experience in Manufacturing Development Engineering, and/or High-Volume Manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor process integration, process control systems, and advanced manufacturing practices.
  • Experience dispositioning lots, supporting development experiments, and making engineering decisions in a process development environment.
  • Experience with equipment troubleshooting, database tools, analytics, and AI-enabled engineering solutions.
  • Excellent communication, organization, prioritization, and time-management skills with the ability to work independently in a constantly evolving environment.
