Job summary

Micron Technology, Inc. is seeking a New College Grad - Photolithography MDE Shift Engineer in Boise, ID.

You will lead during 12-hour rotating shifts, disposition wafers, and address process deviations while collaborating with multiple teams to enable rapid learning and development of next-generation DRAM technologies. You will apply advanced analytics, SPC/DOE methods, and AI-driven tools to accelerate learning cycles, improve decision quality, and support Micron's digital manufacturing

Qualifications

• Master's or bachelor’s degree with semiconductor experience as stated.
• Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Understanding of photolithography processes, semiconductor manufacturing principles, process control, and problem solving.
• Knowledge of SPC, DOE, E3 FD systems, and data-driven decision making.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and technical problem-solving skills; proficient with Microsoft Office.

As a Manufacturing Development Engineering (MDE) Shift Engineer in Photolithography, you will play a critical role in enabling 24/7 process development for next-generation DRAM technologies. Operating on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, you will be the primary engineering decision-maker for off-hours development activities, ensuring uninterrupted execution of process development experiments and technology learning.

Unlike traditional manufacturing shift engineering roles, this position operates in a highly dynamic development environment where process conditions, specifications, and experimental flows regularly evolve. You will apply sound engineering judgment to disposition development wafers, address process and equipment challenges, and balance development objectives with execution needs. In addition, you will use advanced analytics, automation, and AI-enabled solutions to accelerate learning cycles, improve decision quality, and support Micron's AI-driven digital manufacturing strategy.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary off-hours technical authority for development activities by dispositioning wafers, releasing or holding tools, responding to process deviations, addressing execution risks, and maintaining development momentum.
• Partner with Photolithography Process Development, Process Integration, Equipment Development, Manufacturing, and Shift Operations teams to resolve process and equipment issues, remove output constraints, and support experimental processing.
• Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC), E3, Fault Detection (FD) systems, and data analysis techniques to investigate excursions, identify root causes, improve process performance, reduce defects, and improve yield.
• Maintain accurate documentation, reaction plans, process recipes, and procedures while ensuring effective communication, change control, and prompt communication of issues that may affect safety, yield, cycle time, or operational performance.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives through development projects, PMI data collection, audits, benchmarking activities, and implementation of best-known methods.
• Apply Model-Based Problem-Solving methodologies, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled tools to improve engineering decisions and operational effectiveness.
• Apply automation, data science, and AI technologies to strengthen data analysis capabilities, improve workflow efficiency, and accelerate development learning cycles.
• Foster an environment of safety, technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning while supporting development and business objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related engineering field; OR Bachelor's degree with semiconductor manufacturing or process development experience.
• Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
• Understanding of photolithography processes, semiconductor manufacturing principles, process control methodologies, and engineering problem-solving techniques.
• Knowledge of SPC, DOE, E3 FD systems, and data-driven decision-making approaches.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and technical problem-solving skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in photolithography process development and a thorough understanding of the scientific principles supporting semiconductor manufacturing processes.
• Experience in Manufacturing Development Engineering, Process Development, and/or High-Volume Manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of semiconductor process integration, advanced process control systems, and manufacturing best practices.
• Experience with equipment diagnostics, database tools, advanced analytics, automation solutions, and AI-enabled engineering applications, including incorporating large language models (LLMs) to improve workflow efficiency and decision-making.
• Experience and/or interest in developing Agentic AI workflows into current or future processes.
