The Nevada Department of Public Safety seeks individuals to join as DPS Officer Cadets in Las Vegas, Boulder City, Indian Springs, Jean, Henderson, Laughlin, Mesquite, Pahrump, and Pioche. Cadets are trainees at a P.O.S.T. academy to obtain the mandatory certification for DPS Officers.

Cadets are promoted to DPS Officer 1 after academy graduation. The process includes exams, background checks, medical and psychological evaluations, and a drug screening as part of the pre-employment steps.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling; operation of computer equipment to enter, retrieve, and access information.

Responsibilities

• Cadets are assigned to the Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) academy.
• Receive instruction and scenario-based training in a classroom setting and in practical field exercises.
• Cadets are evaluated on class participation, coursework, assignments, and written performance examinations.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
