Job summary

Job description

Department: Navicent Health Medical Center – Interventional Radiology

Job Type: Full time, Hours: 40 per week, Schedule: Monday‑Friday with call. Pay Range: $38.20 – $57.30 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Position and immobilize patients for correct imaging; prepare patients in a sterile fashion for procedures.
  • Operate technical radiographic equipment and auxiliary equipment to obtain high‑quality images; select technical factors to balance image quality and dose.
  • Perform procedures with interventional radiologists and other specialists, including declotting, UFE, venous ablations, and other peripheral vascular procedures.
  • Insert arterial needles and catheters; deploy closure devices as per policy.
  • Participate in and assist complex interventional endovascular neurological procedures: cerebral coilings, AVM gluings, PTA, stent placements, thrombolysis, thrombectomy, and other stroke interventional procedures.
  • Operate special procedure equipment: X‑ray generators, power injectors, computerized radiographic equipment, and patient monitors.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and perform housekeeping tasks.
  • Explain examinations to patients and families; round on patient and family to keep them informed of progress.
  • Assist radiologists with intervention devices such as angioplasty catheters, pressure inflators, steerable guide wires, nephrostomy catheters, urinary stents, biliary drainage catheters, infusion catheters, embolization catheters, and neuro‑interventional catheters.
  • Maintain the flow of patients by assisting with patient care and transportation to and from care areas.
  • Provide patient history, previous examinations, contraindications, and other data to radiologists.
  • Receive emergency calls and respond within 45 minutes.
  • Maintain supplies and inventory levels.
  • Record all pertinent patient information for accurate procedure charging.
  • Deliver patient care in accordance with departmental standards of continued quality improvement.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills; maintain positive communication with the department coordination team.
  • Maintain positive customer relations following prescribed department policies.
  • Manage data entry for neuro‑interventional patients; enter data in HI‑IQ for general interventional patients.
  • Promote patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives.
  • Participate in team problem‑solving to improve patient care, department operations, image quality, inter‑departmental relationships, and employee satisfaction.
  • Secure supplies and equipment for the department independently.
  • Serve as primary contact for neuro‑physicians on program changes with technology and procedures.
  • Maintain technical excellence of Neuro‑Interventional technical staff and present new procedures to team.
  • Manage stock in a cost‑efficient manner; coordinate new product offerings; maintain par levels; remove expired products.
  • Maintain communication with vendors and other Advocate sites regarding product exchanges.
  • Audit and assure understanding of program changes by staff.
  • Gather and maintain key data elements to support the neuro‑interventional program.
  • Develop leadership skills and professionalism; supervise and train technologists; provide orientation, education, instruction, and direction to technologists.
Education & Experience
  • Attended an AMA‑approved School of Radiologic Technology and be ARRT registered.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in interventional radiology procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to perform most interventional radiology procedures usually performed in a special lab with close supervision of the radiologist.
  • Demonstrate ability to use various types of radiographic equipment to obtain images of optimal quality.
  • Excellent teamwork and cooperation with internal and external customers.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Licensed: ARRT registered; Licensed by State of Illinois (IEMA).
Physical Requirements
  • Exposed to radiation.
  • Ability to deal with extremely ill patients.
  • Ability to communicate with patients.
  • Ability to adjust to flexible work hours, long hours, overtime hours.
  • Ability to participate in on‑call program and available with minimal notice.
  • Ability to perform light, medium, heavy lifting: light (up to 20 lbs), medium (20‑50 lbs), heavy (50‑100 lbs).
  • Ability to stand for long periods while wearing lead apron (~20 lbs).
  • Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment.
  • Ability to practice high‑quality patient care and technical competence.
  • Ability to function with minimal assistance.
  • Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with physicians and nurses.
