Job description

North Texas Brain & Spine Specialists is a specialized neurosurgical practice dedicated to providing exceptional, patient-centered care for individuals with brain, spine, and neurological conditions. Our team combines advanced clinical expertise with a compassionate, personalized approach to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and highly driven Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our clinical team. This position is ideal for an NP with 1–2+ years of experience in neurology/neurosurgery, orthopedics, spine care, or pain management who is looking to further develop their expertise within a specialized neurosurgical practice.

This is a dynamic, hands‑on clinical role. We are looking for someone who brings energy and initiative to their work, performs well in a fast‑paced and high‑pressure environment, and is comfortable taking ownership of patient care.

Position Overview:

The Nurse Practitioner will work closely with our neurosurgeons and clinical team to evaluate, treat, and manage patients with a variety of neurological and spinal conditions.

The NP will be involved throughout the patient's care journey, from initial consultation and diagnostic workup through treatment planning, surgical preparation, intraoperative first‑assist responsibilities, postoperative care, and long‑term follow‑up.

The ideal candidate is clinically confident, highly organized, energetic, communicative, and able to remain effective and composed in a demanding clinical environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

We believe in supporting strong clinical performance while creating opportunities for continued professional growth.

  • $130,000–$150,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications, plus performance-based incentives.
  • Accrued paid time off.
  • Performance-based incentives tied to individual and practice performance.
  • Malpractice insurance coverage provided by the practice. Tail coverage is not included.
  • Conference & Professional Development Support: For approved conferences relevant to neurosurgery, spine care, or advanced practice nursing, the practice may cover conference registration, airfare, and hotel accommodations.
  • Research & Publication Opportunities: Our practice participates in various clinical and research initiatives. Depending on the project and level of involvement, there may be opportunities to contribute to research projects and potentially be included on papers, presentations, or publications as an author or contributor, where appropriate.

Please note: This position does not currently include employer-sponsored medical insurance or a 401(k) retirement plan.

Who We're Looking For:

We are looking for more than someone who can simply perform the clinical responsibilities of the position.

The right candidate is energetic, driven, proactive, dependable, and clinically curious. You should be someone who takes ownership of your patients, follows through without needing constant direction, and is motivated to continue developing your clinical skills.

Our practice is dynamic and can be fast‑paced. Neurosurgical patients may have complex and rapidly evolving needs, and the successful candidate must be able to prioritize effectively, think clinically under pressure, communicate quickly when concerns arise, and adapt as circumstances change.

You will work closely with our physicians and clinical team while managing patients across multiple stages of care, from clinic and hospital management to the operating room and postoperative follow‑up. Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, responsiveness, accountability, and an exceptional commitment to patient care are essential.

For an NP who wants to deepen their experience in neurosurgery and spine care, gain hands‑on surgical exposure, participate in complex patient management, and grow professionally through clinical experience, this position offers a unique opportunity to build specialized expertise within a growing practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive patient histories, assessments, and physical examinations.
  • Perform neurological and musculoskeletal examinations and evaluate patients presenting with brain, spine, and neurological conditions.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions within the NP's scope of practice.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the practice's physicians.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including laboratory testing, X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and other appropriate imaging.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with Texas licensure, credentialing requirements, and practice protocols.
  • Manage new patient consultations and established patient follow-up visits.
  • Provide preoperative evaluations and patient education for individuals undergoing neurosurgical and spine procedures.
  • Serve as first assist during neurosurgical and spine procedures, as required, working directly alongside the surgeon in the operating room.
  • Participate in postoperative management, including wound evaluations, medication management, recovery monitoring, and follow‑up care.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as clinically appropriate.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, procedures, medications, recovery expectations, and preventive care.
  • Coordinate referrals, imaging, therapy, injections, surgery, and other services necessary for continuity of care.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, hospitals, rehabilitation providers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Communicate abnormal, urgent, or changing clinical findings promptly to the appropriate physician.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Assist with hospital‑based patient care, rounding, and other clinical responsibilities as required.
  • Participate in trauma call approximately 7–10 days per month and assist with trauma‑related clinical responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Support the clinical team in maintaining an efficient, responsive, and patient‑centered care environment.
Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with an MSN, DNP, or other qualifying graduate nursing degree.
  • Current Texas RN and APRN licensure with authorization to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current national board certification.
  • Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC), as appropriate for the position and clinical setting.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience practicing as a Nurse Practitioner, preferably within neurology/neurosurgery, orthopedics, spine care, or pain management.
  • Current BLS certification and ability to obtain or maintain ACLS if required for hospital responsibilities.
  • Eligible for prescriptive authority in Texas and able to meet applicable practice and credentialing requirements.
  • Eligible for DEA registration if required for the position.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in surgical first‑assist responsibilities and obtain/maintain any required hospital or facility privileges and credentials.

Candidates with direct experience in one or more of the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply:

  • Neurosurgery or neurology
  • Spine surgery or spine care
  • Orthopedics
  • Interventional or chronic pain management
  • Trauma or acute care
