Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA is seeking a full-time Day Shift Registered Nurse, Manager for the Neuroscience Unit. You will oversee operations, supervise patient care staff, and partner with neurosurgeons and neurologists to deliver safe, high-quality care.

The role requires BSN, RN license, and management experience; you will help grow a specialized neuro team, participate in budgeting, scheduling, and clinical resource planning, with a focus on stroke and epilepsy monitoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; graduate degree preferred.
• One year of Management experience required.
• Two years in a support leadership RN position may be accepted in lieu of 1 year formal management experience.
• Registered Nurse license required; BLS within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Neuroscience Unit and ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
• Supervise and develop nursing staff; participate in interviewing, hiring and staff retention.
• Assist in unit budget development, payroll coordination and supply procurement.
• Collaborate with neurosurgeons and neurologists to advance patient outcomes.

Overview:

_ Sentara is hiring a full-time Day Shift Registered Nurse, Manager for the Neuroscience Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. _

Location: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital – Norfolk, VA

Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Shift: Days

Weekends: Every other weekend availability required

Holiday Rotation: Required

Oncology 6 RP Unit Overview

The Neuro IMCU is a blended unit focusing on all neuro patients, including stroke patients, back and neck post-surgical patients, and has one of the few Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) in the area.

• Epilepsy patients
• All neurosurgeries (brain, pituitary, etc.)
• Stroke patients (surgical and non-surgical)

Education Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing ( BSN ) Required , graduate degree preferred.

The Clinical Nurse Manager has overall accountability for the daily operations of one or more clinical areas. Supervises patient care services staff, ensures excellent patient safety and quality outcomes as well as extraordinary patient/family experience. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, developing and retaining staff with the goal of developing a highly reliable team. Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills to achieve unit and corporate goals. Assists in the development and monitoring of unit budget, coordinates purchasing and payroll processes and serves as a clinical resource to team members.
