The Transmitter, an initiative of the Simons Foundation, is looking for a News Editor to join our newsroom in New York City. This full-time role shapes and edits news, high-impact scoops, and accountability reporting for a neuroscience audience.

You will work with staff reporters and freelancers to assign and edit stories, oversee copyediting and fact-checking, and help plan diverse, rigorous coverage. Five+ years editing experience and neuroscience interest are essential.

Qualifications

• Five years of news editing experience.
• Passion for basic neuroscience coverage.

Responsibilities

• Develop pitches for news and enterprise stories with reporters and freelancers.
• Assign and edit articles.
• Help recruit interns and manage freelancers.
• Oversee copyediting and fact-checking.
• Ensure diverse coverage and sourcing.
• Collaborate with art and design for visuals and data graphics.
• Contribute to editorial planning meetings and coverage priorities.
• Perform other writing and editing duties as required.
