Job summary

The Transmitter in New York City is seeking a News Editor to shape and edit news, high-impact scoops and accountability reporting for a neuroscience audience. The role collaborates with staff and freelancers to produce award-caliber journalism.

Reporting to the Managing Editor, you will oversee editing, copyediting and newsroom planning, ensuring rigorous, accurate coverage under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Five years of news editing experience
• Ability to edit articles on complex scientific topics for a specialist audience

Responsibilities

• Develop pitches for news and enterprise stories
• Assign and edit articles
• Manage interns and freelancers
• Oversee copyediting and fact-checking
• Ensure diversity in coverage and sourcing
• Collaborate with art director on visuals and graphics
• Contribute to editorial planning
• Perform other writing/editing duties as assigned
