Job summary

Duke University Medical Center's Department of Pathology seeks a full-time clinical neuropathologist to join its faculty and provide comprehensive diagnostic services. Board certification in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology (board-eligible or certified) are required.

The successful candidate will perform surgical neuropathology, intraoperative consultations, autopsy pathology, and related subspecialty work, with teaching duties and active participation in multidisciplinary care.

Qualifications

• Board-certified in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology board-eligible or board-certified.
• Experience with diagnostic neuropathology services and teaching expected.
• Willingness to provide clinical coverage in autopsy or other subspecialties as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive diagnostic services in surgical neuropathology.

• Handle peripheral nerve and skeletal muscle pathology.
• Oversee ophthalmic pathology and FISH/imaging-based diagnostics.

Join Duke Pathology! The Department of Pathology at Duke University Medical Center is seeking a full-time clinical service-focused neuropathologist to join its faculty and provide comprehensive diagnostic services. Applicants must be board-certified in Anatomic Pathology and board-certified or board-eligible in Neuropathology.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to diagnostic excellence and patient care and will participate in a broad range of neuropathology services, including:

• Surgical neuropathology
• Intraoperative consultations for neurologic cases
• Autopsy neuropathology
• Peripheral nerve and skeletal muscle pathology
• Ophthalmic pathology
• Image cytometry and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)

Additional training or experience in general autopsy pathology and/or another surgical pathology subspecialty, and willingness to provide clinical coverage in these areas as needed, is required.

Clinical Environment

The Department of Pathology has 68 faculty members and supports 30 residents and fellows in anatomic pathology, including neuropathology, and clinical pathology. The surgical pathology service processes more than 50,000 accessions annually, including approximately 3,300 surgical neuropathology, ophthalmic, muscle, and nerve biopsies. Autopsy neuropathology consultations are provided for approximately 230 cases annually. Duke University Health System clinical laboratories perform more than 16 million tests each year.

Duke provides a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary clinical environment with close interaction among pathologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, oncologists, ophthalmologists, radiologists, and other specialists. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary conferences and contribute to the diagnosis and management of patients with complex neurologic, neuromuscular, ophthalmic, and neoplastic diseases.
