Job summary

Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, is seeking a Nurse Extern for PRN shifts to gain hands-on nursing experience while supporting the nursing team.

You will assist with ADLs, monitor vital signs, and learn under supervision, with opportunities to grow into more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program. PRN status provides flexible scheduling and exposure to a Magnet-designated hospital.

Qualifications

• BCLS must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Enrolled in an accredited nursing program (21 NCAC 36.0302(b)(1)).
• NC (CNA) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with ADLs, monitor vital signs, support mobility and comfort.
• Perform basic nursing tasks as experience grows (wound care, catheter care, specimen collection).
• Document care accurately and communicate updates to the nursing team.
• Explain care plans to patients and families and provide guidance.
• Maintain clean, safe patient areas and follow infection prevention practices.
• Engage in learning opportunities and develop a personal career plan with your supervisor.
